about the photographer
Tom has been making photographs since he won his first camera in a fifth grade spelling bee in Cleveland, Ohio. He learned photography from his father and grandmother and spent his formative years creating photographs, making movies and printing in the family darkroom.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Tom spent the next decade and a half working as a video-journalist at WCPO-TV, where he received three regional Emmy awards for his work. After moving to New York City, Tom became involved in politics, where he became Chief of Staff to New York City Council Members Kathryn Freed and Alan Gerson. Tom returned to his original passion for still photography in 2002.

Tom’s photojournalism work has been published in the Xavier News, the Mt. Auburn Update, the Bridge-Leader newspaper in Washington Heights, HX and Island Scene magazines. His first solo show, 2006's "In These Garland'd Woods" was a critical and commercial success. His Fire Island photographs are featured in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Fire Island Men Calendar, published by FireIslandmen.com.
